ALAH Weekend Update

Hello Knight Family:

We have kicked off our school year in big KNIGHT style! Our all school cook-out had guest celebrity chef’s Coach Don and Sally McCarthy and Seargent Meredith and his wife Amanda helping us flip and serve burgers on Wednesday.  We also had icebreakers and class spirit games at the football field.  Ask your student about the table contest and who won the class cheer!  Prepare yourself for lots of emotion about these two events.  On Thursday we welcomed speaker Ted Weise from Indianapolis.  I have never seen the student body collectively laugh so much!  We weren’t so great at his game of ‘Simon or Ted Says’ but we did walk away with thoughts about being a part of the solution and not the problem and how important our attitudes apply to our success. We ended with our Red & Gold Scrimmage on Friday night where we met our fall student athletes starring our marching band and then cheered on our soccer and football teams!  A great first week!

At the end of the email you will see our activities for the upcoming week. Remember we are on a 1:15 dismissal schedule until Labor Day because of the heat.  We were fortunate that the temperatures cooled down this last week, but it looks like our typical August weather is returning next week.  I am also including a few reminders about logistics at the high school.

You are always welcome to visit us!  We love to show off what’s happening inside the walls at ALAH HS!  Our Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 1st from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  We hope you will mark your calendars.  Details about our evening are coming soon.

One final note that has brought our Knight family great sadness is the loss of Zarek Fultz, a member of our 2022 graduating class.  We want all families and students to know that we will be providing counseling in the library on Monday.  All of our students are welcome to stop by any time on Monday.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I put money in my student’s lunch or breakfast account? Money can be added to your student’s food service account online with a credit or debit card through Skyward or with cash or check in the school office. You can see your students balance through Skyward at any time. Breakfast is $2.10 and lunch is $3.00. Last year all students received free breakfast and lunch however that will not be the case this year as that program from the State of Illinois was discontinued.

How does my student get their PE Uniform? If your student ordered a uniform in the spring, those uniforms have been delivered to the school and will be distributed the first week or two of school. If your student has not yet ordered a PE uniform they may wear a plain red shirt and black shorts until another uniform order is placed.  To place an order, complete the form here

What time should students arrive?  The doors open at 7:30 am and students may be in the cafeteria at this time.  Students may leave the cafeteria at 8 to go to classrooms and instruction begins at 8:15.
