We are so excited for this week!
Here are a few things to know ….
We will be running unusual schedules on Wednesday and Thursday plus we have early dismissals to help with the heat. (See schedules below.) Our first day back will include games and class challenges and an all school cookout with a guest celebrity chef! On Thursday we are welcoming speaker Ted Wiese to help kick start the year. Then on Friday we have a regular although shortened schedule followed by our Red & Gold game to preview our Knights athletics!
FAQs that you may have ..
Does my student have to have specific school supplies for school? Students just need basic items like notebooks, pencils/pens, folders, etc. If a teacher needs special supplies, they will let your student know and give you time to get those. We have school planners available in the office. Encourage your students to stop by the office and get one!
Are there updates to the handbooks that I might need to review with my student? A few items that students will want to be aware of include turning in their cell phones at the beginning of each class and Airpods/headphones are only allowed during lunch or passing periods. Also, drinks must have closed lids on them. If you have questions or concerns about these, please feel free to call or email me. You can review the district and high school handbooks on the website.
Are there changes in the dress code this year? Yes! Check it out in the district handbook on page 13 or in the high school handbook page 24, but the essential information is this:
One area we are asking for everyone to help with is understanding that student’s clothing showing excessive skin and/or undergarments may not be worn at school. For example, the fabric of the shirt must consistently touch the top of the pants or the equivalent of (jeans, skirt, sweatpants, leggings, dress or shorts) and all undergarments must be covered by outer attire. Are students allowed to come to school and walk through their schedule and/or practice their locks on their lockers? Of course! The building will be open and available on Monday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on Tuesday from 8 am to 4 pm.
What time is breakfast served? Breakfast is served everyday beginning at 7:45 and is $2.10. A La Carte items are also available for individual purchase.
How do I put money in my student’s lunch or breakfast account? Money can be added to your student’s food service account online with a credit or debit card through Skyward or with cash or check in the school office. You can see your students balance through Skyward at any time. Breakfast is $2.10 and lunch is $3.00. Last year all students received free breakfast and lunch however that will not be the case this year as that program from the State of Illinois was discontinued.
How does my student get their PE Uniform? If your student ordered a uniform in the spring, those uniforms have been delivered to the school and will be distributed the first week or two of school. If your student has not yet ordered a PE uniform they may wear a plain red shirt and black shorts until another uniform order is placed. To place an order, complete the form here.
What time should students arrive? The doors open at 7:30 am and students may be in the cafeteria at this time. Students may leave the cafeteria at 8 to go to classrooms and instruction begins at 8:15.
