Hello Knight Family:
You should see and hear the students setting up and practicing for our Fine Arts Boosters’ annual Dessert Theater on Saturday evening. It has been a fun day hearing the music through our hallways and watching the students take their artwork to display. In addition to the program there is a silent auction and a celebrity pie auction. All proceeds go to camps, scholarships, awards and program needs. Doors open at 6:15 and the show starts at 7 pm. We would love for you to join us.
Wednesday, April 13th goes on our calendars when school starts. It’s the day we face head on to prepare our students to the best of their ability. You may be asking what the SAT and PSAT is all about. The state board of education requires these tests for all freshmen, sophomores and juniors. We use the results to help plan our instruction and the state uses the results to help measure how well we are doing. Students may use the results to help obtain scholarships in college or prepare them for other standardized testing like the ASVAB for the military. If your student isn’t headed to college right after high school, this score will stand for five years. Here is the short story for Wednesday of next week:
Freshmen and Sophomores | Juniors |
Free breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:45 - 8:25 | Free breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:45 - 8:10 |
Test from 8:30 - 12:05 | Check in the gym foyer using the gym foyer doors between 8:00 and 8:15 |
Lunch 12:05 - 1:05 | Testing from approximately 8:15 - 1:15 |
Fun activities from 1:05 - 3:15 | Juniors dismissed when testing complete |
Keys to help your student succeed next week include a good night’s sleep on Tuesday, eating breakfast, and dressing comfortably. Also, everyone needs a calculator and pencil!
On Wednesday, the Class of 2022 will be off campus and preparing for their final weeks of high school. It’s going to be a great day that covers everything from graduation to our fun activities in May to an etiquette workshop, lunch at Yoder’s Kitchen and a class picture! Parents of seniors watch for a separate email about the activities planned for that day.
While we are in testing mode, all juniors will take the Illinois Science Assessment on Thursday in the new gym. This is a state requirement and it will last from 8:15-11:30. The test will be completed on the students Chromebook so please make sure your student brings their charged Chromebook to school on Thursday!
Don’t forget that Thursday is a 1:00 dismissal and no school on Friday!
Sincerely,
Steffanie Seegmiller, Principal Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School
