Hello Knight Family:
We are quickly approaching the end of the semester! Only seven and a half instructional days remain, followed by our two final exam days on December 19th and 20th. Next week is the perfect time for your student to begin studying for finals. Per our handbook, all high school students are required to take semester exams at the end of both the first and second semesters. The only exceptions for the first semester are seniors who beat the state average on the SAT last April, have fewer than six absences, and earned at least a C in all their classes.
We’ll be sharing study tips in the days leading up to finals to help students prepare. Test anxiety often comes from a lack of preparation or cramming at the last minute. By starting early, we can help reduce some of that stress. Look for the final exam schedule in next week’s parent email!
Our December calendar is packed with activities! In addition to regular classes, we have basketball games, our Christmas Choral and Band Concert, the National Honor Society's Holiday for Haircuts, the Cookie Walk, and more. At ALAH, our faculty and staff have a fun tradition of dressing up during the weeks leading up to holiday break. This year, some of our students have asked to join in! Below, you’ll find a list of our festive theme days, culminating next week with Student Council’s traditional Ugly Sweater Day.
Looking ahead to Friday, January 10th, we’re excited to be a part of the second annual Corn Bowl Classic! This year, we’ll travel to Cerro Gordo, where the varsity girls (10:00 AM) and varsity boys (12:00 PM) will face off against Cerro Gordo/Bement. This all-day event promises to be one of the highlights of the year! Students will leave the high school at 9:10 AM and return around 2:15 PM. Lunch—hot dogs and chips—will be provided for all students. If your student would like a Corn Bowl Classic T-shirt, they are available for purchase!
Speaking of great gifts, don’t forget about our discount cards! We have about 100 cards left, and they make fantastic Christmas presents. Each card sold helps your student with their senior trip fund. To place an order, just call the office at (217) 543-2146.
A quick reminder: Thursday, December 12th is a noon dismissal for our School Improvement Day. As we transition from December to January, be sure to follow us on social media for updates on potential winter weather schedule changes. Social media will be the fastest way to stay informed if changes are needed.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school!
Mrs. Seegmiller
