Hello Knight Family:

Our discount cards are being sold!  The businesses that have signed up are incredibly generous!  La Cascada, Pauly’s, Yoder’s, F.D. Miller, Kaskaskia Clubhouse, Shady Crest, Arthur Floral & Home Decor, Beachy’s, Bear Creek Yard Creations, Dutch Valley Meats, Frenchie's Boutique, Homestead Bakery, Legacy Building Supply, Los Gallos, Roselens, Tanning & Treats, Lucky Monkey, Yeakley’s Auto Body, Sweet Vail Cafe, The Flower Pot, The Traditional Sullivan Bakery, DQ (both Arcola and Tuscola), Monicals (Tuscola, Arcola & Sullivan), Unwind-Rewind, and Flesor’s.  It is incredible to have our local businesses provide so much support towards the senior trip.  The cards are $20 and your student earns $10 for each card sold.  The incentive program runs through September 20th!  So sell those cards!

Beginning on Monday, September 9th, students with a C or higher in each class AND attending the school the day before may leave during study hall.  (This only applies to your student if you gave this permission during registration. If you would like to change your permission, please call the office at 217-543-2146.)  It is important to remember that there are many times during the week that there will be required class or club meetings and your student’s teacher may need your student to stay and receive extra support, complete make-up work or complete a test/quiz, etc. Students that meet the requirement but do NOT want to leave the building may go to the cafeteria.  In the cafeteria they may play games, talk with their friends and use their phone.  Students are ALWAYS welcome to stay in study hall and work.

Also on Monday, we will be opening our math and writing center in the library.  This is available to all students during study hall and provides extra help with math or English.  The math and writing center is staffed with peer coaches and math/English faculty.  Your student may work with any teacher during study hall, all faculty have study hall during our 8th hour.

As always it is busy in the hall of ALAH.  Next week, there will be committee meetings for Homecoming involving the planning for float and hallway decorating. These meetings will be in the announcements and students will have emails with the details. Homecoming Week is September 21- 28th and will be packed with activities.

Finally, next week is National Suicide Awareness Prevention Week. Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death for students age 10-14 and early statistics indicate that the rate for suicide continues to increase, but is slowing down?  We want to help students feel that they belong in school, with connections and relationships.  We have the following activities scheduled to help bring sensitivity to this issue. Ms. Russell and one of her students have worked to plan activities. Activities include positive messages, a wall of hope, prevention bracelets, and decorating keychains or bracelets.

Mrs. Seegmiller
