Hello Knight Family:
If you are new to our ALAH HS Knight Family, each Friday we will send a weekly email to let you know a few highlights from our week and what might be coming up. We will also list our upcoming activities. This week is long enough to be a novel!
We have had a great back to school week. On Wednesday we kicked off school with an all school mixer led by our cheer team that ended with the entire student body dancing to “Cotton Eyed Joe” followed by an all school assembly. During the assembly we recognized our Academic Letter winners from last school year, our SAT award winners, and we hosted guest speaker Mr. Ed Coller who talked about character. We ended the assembly with a class chant competition. (Congratulations Juniors!) We then had ten minute class periods, lunch and our first ever Knights’ Carnival. This summer a team of faculty planned games, prizes, snacks and we even organized a shaved ice truck sponsored by CHI. A huge thank you to our team for working hard this summer to plan this new tradition, Mrs. Rafferty, Ms. Russell, Mrs. Benedict, Mrs. Renfro, Ms. Ford, Mr. Lee, Catey Baldwin, Faith Rund, and Justine Gimer. We hope your student had their best first day ever!
We quickly moved into our regular schedule and our faculty are working hard to get to know your student and begin to introduce their class. We have spent study halls working to get to know each other and next week will start planning Homecoming Week. Our Student Council announced our Homecoming theme as Disney/Pixar. Bring on the float building and hallway decorating!
Next Friday, we hope you will join us for our HS Open House from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. We are starting in the west gym with a short assembly. During the assembly we will recognize our Academic Letter winners along with students who achieved the top SAT awards from last spring and introduce our faculty. You will be able to walk through your student’s schedule with your student and meet each of their teachers. Our community partners will be set up in the cafeteria and new this year. … we will have freshmen/sophomore/junior/senior tables set up in the east gym for parents. The tables will have checklists and information for you to pick up! At 7:00 we will kick off the Red & Gold game at Wilson Field.
PICTURE DAY is THURSDAY, August 22. Orders may be placed link @ Interstate Studios online using code 88026GB.

FAQs that you may have about high school ...
Are there updates to the handbooks that I might need to review with my student? A few items that students will want to be aware of include turning in all electronic devices at the beginning of each class and Airpods/headphones and phones are only allowed to be used during lunch or passing periods. Also, drinks must have closed lids on them. If you have questions or concerns about these, please feel free to call or email me. You can review the district and high school handbooks on the website.
Are there changes in the dress code this year? Check it out in the district handbook on page 12 or in the high school handbook page 25-26, but the essential information is this:
One area we are asking for everyone to help with is understanding that student’s clothing showing excessive skin and/or undergarments may not be worn at school. For example, the fabric of the shirt must consistently touch the top of the pants or the equivalent of (jeans, skirt, sweatpants, leggings, dress or shorts) and all undergarments must be covered by outer attire. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at seegmillers@cusd305.org.
What time is breakfast served? Breakfast is served everyday beginning at 7:45 and is $2.20. A La Carte items are also available for individual purchase.
How do I put money in my student’s lunch or breakfast account? Money can be added to your student’s food service account online with a credit or debit card through Skyward or with cash or check in the school office. You can see your students balance through Skyward at any time. Breakfast is $2.20 and lunch is $3.45. Students may NOT purchase any extra items (chips, sandwiches, bottled drinks, etc.) without having money in their account.
What time should students arrive? The doors open at 7:30 am and students may be in the cafeteria at this time. Students may leave the cafeteria at 8 to go to classrooms and instruction begins at 8:15.
How do I buy a pass for athletics? Passes may be purchased in the office at the high school or in the office of any of our grade schools. They are $25 for students, $50 for adults and $25 for senior citizens. The passes are valid for all HOME High School and Junior High athletic games and tournaments in the Arthur CUSD @#305 district except IHSA and IESA post-season tournaments. You may also purchase passes in the concession stand at football games!
