Hello Knight Family:
It has been a great week at ALAH. Our Special Olympics team composed of Lily Yoder and Kadence Turnbow left early this morning heading to Eastern Illinois University. Our early bird PE class and faculty cheered them on as they departed. They were able to complete their competitions before the rain set in! Our National Honor Society volunteered at the event. It was a great day for everyone and so we are so thankful we got it in before the rain. Kadence and Lily will learn if they earned a medal next week.
On Wednesday I had the great honor to take two seniors to the Lincoln Prairie Conference Principal Luncheon. Claire Seal and Hunter Grant represented ALAH well as they joined other students from across our conference. It was a fun treat and a great luncheon hosted by the Kaskaskia Country Club.
Seniors Brooklyn Matheny, Hunter Grant, Madison Schweighart, and Zac Snyder had their capstone event for CEO at the Arcola Community Building on Wednesday night. Each student set up a booth to highlight their individual businesses. Brooklyn started a business to organize closets, rooms, etc. Madison has started a babysitting service that involves educational activities and encourages no screen time, Zac is making and selling dog leashes and also has a dog walking service and finally Hunter is selling permanent jewelry. Not only do these students earn high school and college credit for this class, they get to keep their profits. Several of them plan to keep their business going after high school.
Mrs. Uphoff and her FFA students hosted an outstanding Ag Banquet to end their year with over 80 people in attendance. We have so many Blue Coats! There were many awards and scholarships presented. Our FFA students have been extremely successful this year. They also seated their newly elected officers, recognized the support of the alumni and had a delicious dinner.
Finally, I would like to invite you to one of the upcoming Open Houses that the district will be hosting in May. The Board of Education is working to determine if there should be a referendum on the ballot in November to remodel and update the high school. There have been multiple focus groups including students, teachers, parents and community members to discuss what the needs are. There were common themes that came out of these meetings and have led to a plan that is being considered. The open houses will give you the opportunity to see the building and the potential plan. Attached is a flier with all of the details.
Mrs. Seegmiller
