Weekend Update

Hello Knight Family:

If you are anything like me, you might be quick to jump to the conclusion that video games are bad.  In reality, there are some positives about video games.  For example, did you know that students that actively play video games make good air traffic controllers?  Why?  They have learned how to read screens, make quick decisions and if they make a mistake, they are quick to adapt.

From my point of view there is one problem with video games. Students staying up too late playing them!  Students tell us that they stay up nearly all night to play games.  A few students even skip school to play, practice or get the newest game. This week we have had several conversations with students about why they are so sleepy or why they have missing assignments.  It probably isn’t a coincidence that there is a common theme!  VIDEO GAMES!

Here is an article from NPR with more thoughts on the world of video gaming that teenagers are immersed in.  Although there are great benefits to video games, we would ask for your help in making sure your student isn’t staying up into the wee hours of the morning playing. We need them at school with their homework done and with at least seven hours of sleep.  Worried about your kids' video gaming? Here's how to help them set healthy limits

Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend?  The ALAH Drama Club is performing The Lightning Thief starting this evening. We are beyond excited to have a musical for the spring performance.  The show is tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m., Saturday @ 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.   Tickets are $3 for students and $6 for adults.

Check out our updated extended list of important dates below. We are trying something new and will begin to include future dates that are of importance to all of us.  For example Honor’s Night, Graduation, the first day of school and Homecoming are all included!  If this overwhelms you, please feel free to not read it!  HA!
