Weekly Wrap

1//7/2022

Dear Knight Families,

Welcome back to school! It has definitely been a busy but productive week here at AHGS. We appreciate your cooperation with some of the changes that we have had to endure just this week. We are all very frustrated with the shortage of rapid tests.  We have compiled a list of testing sites and they are listed below. I would recommend calling these places prior to going just to confirm their hours have not changed and that they still have a supply of tests.  Please note that students that are showing symptoms need to be kept home and must be tested before they return. In conjunction with a negative test result,  if a student is vomiting or has diarrhea they must be free of that symptom (with no meds) for 48 hours before returning. If a student is running a fever they must be fever free (with no meds) for 24 hours prior to returning.

Testing site locations:

  • Douglas County Health Department @ Tuscola Outlet Mall (hours vary- call first)
  • Champaign County Health Department- Market Place Shopping Center (8:00-4:00 Monday through Saturday)
  • OSF/U of I
  • Sarah Bush Lincoln in Mattoon
  • Walgreens in Mattoon and Charleston
  • Carle in Mattoon on Hurst Dr.
  • HSHS Medical Group in Decatur
  • Walgreens
  • CVS-Decatur
  • Harmone Labs, LLC (217-717-6390)

Winter has definitely arrived in Illinois. We will be opening the gym for arrival in the mornings on the extremely cold days, however, the doors do not open until 7:45. If your child is arriving earlier than this please make sure they are wearing coats, hats, mittens, etc. If you are in need of a winter coat for your child please contact the office. We also try to take the students outside as long as the weather cooperates.

PBIS Update:
3rd quarter we will be tracking how many assignments students turn in on time. Our goal is that 80% of the assignments will be completed and turned in on time within the classrooms and then within the school. We are working on a reward that involves a movie day at the end of the quarter if our goal is met. Please encourage your students to complete their work and get it turned in on time. We use their work to help assess their knowledge of what is being taught within the classroom. It gives the teachers another sample of student work that they can track towards mastery of the standards being taught! Thank you for your help!

Wednesday, January 12 we have our last community engagement meeting at ALAH High School. This meeting is held in the old gym and is from 6:00-8:00pm. These meetings have been very productive in talking about the facilities in our district. I encourage you to attend and share your ideas and thoughts about our district and our facilities.
