To the Class of 2021: Class of 2021, I am proud of you for so many things and I have learned so much from you during this past year. As we wrap up this school year and you prepare yourselves for the next step in your lives, I wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude and appreciation for you all. Our journey together actually started in August of 2019 when you were beginning your Junior year and I was beginning my journey as your new Superintendent. The last two years have been memorable for the obvious reason of navigating the pandemic, but I want to focus on why you have made these last two years memorable for myself and our communities. Take a journey with me down memory lane for a moment and reflect back to March of 2020 when school and life changed. Without warning you were asked to reinvent yourself and reinvent the way you went about your daily life. School was turned upside down and life as we previously knew it was changing. You finished out the school year remotely and that looked so much different than normal and probably looked different from class to class. Summer came and instead of breathing a sigh of relief for some down time, you were all hit with the stressors of the unknown and the fear of what your Senior year was going to look like. Summer of 2020 wrapped up and you were now faced with more challenges and more adaptations that you didn’t ask for and probably were not thrilled with to start your Senior year. Terms that were new earlier in the year were unfortunately now becoming common nomenclature. Terms like social distancing, pandemic, remote learning, quarantine, and contact tracing were now more and more of our common language. You were also asked to go to school on a shortened schedule while still learning as much as before. You were asked to attend school without some of the most fun activities we have to offer as those were also put on hold. Once activities were allowed to resume they were resumed with many restrictions. This included limiting the number of spectators who could attend and celebrate the awesome performances and the many talents that all of you possess and displayed. Even our most celebrated event of the year, graduation, is being affected despite the positive trends we are seeing related to the pandemic. I asked you to take that journey with me down memory lane, not to point out all the negative things you have had to endure the past two years, but actually quite the opposite. Although some of the challenges I previously mentioned were very frustrating and we would have preferred to not endure them, you persevered and showed your true character and strength as you reached the finish line. I have learned more from you in those two years and for that I am forever grateful. I have witnessed compassion towards others, grace, determination, patience and positive leadership and these characteristics and values have been sustained over the past two years. You are well aware of the challenges you have been faced with and had to overcome, but I hope that you will take some time and reflect on all the positive attributes that you have gained. You have taken all the adversity that has been thrown at you and conquered it. You have emerged on the other side stronger. The easy thing to do would have been to complain or even give up and quit. You decided to choose the hard road and face those challenges head on. Without your leadership and dedication to making the best of the situation we would not have been able to accomplish all that we did this school year and I am so proud. So I will close with this final thought and that is related to your place in this world moving ahead. The world is going to be in good hands. I am confident that you are going to take the lead and provide the next generation the model for what it takes to not only persevere but thrive in the most difficult of times. You are an inspiration and I am extremely grateful to have been able to call myself your Superintendent. Thank you and good luck! Mr. Shannon Cheek Superintendent Arthur CUSD #305

Attention 8th Grade Parents & Guardians, Due to the forecasted weather for Wednesday, we are going to have the 8th grade promotion practice tomorrow, Tuesday, May 25. If you could make sure your 8th grade student has a sack lunch for tomorrow as we will stop at the park and have lunch before heading back to school. We will also be giving each 8th grade student 10 tickets for 8th grade promotion instead of 4. If we end up having promotion indoors on Saturday morning because of weather, each student will only be allowed to use four tickets for indoor promotion. Gates will now open at 5:00 pm Friday for 8th grade promotion. Please have your tickets signed and ready to turn in at the gate. If you have any questions, please call your school office.
