Good afternoon Arthur CUSD students, families and communities. As I’m sitting here in my office this Friday afternoon, I want to take a moment and express how refreshing and exciting it has been in our buildings these past few days. I want to recognize all the hard work and dedication that has been displayed.
We welcomed our new teachers to our district on Wednesday and then welcomed the rest of the staff on Thursday. I must admit, usually talking in front of people isn’t something I enjoy, but on Wednesday and Thursday when I addressed the staff it was only feelings of joy and excitement. We haven’t seen many of our staff since we departed in March and it was great to get to see them again. The excitement that I witnessed when our staff were discussing the opportunity to work with the students again soon, was a great feeling. That positivity was welcomed and appreciated.
I want to extend a sincere thank you to all the dedicated staff that serve the Arthur CUSD #305 district. I have witnessed staff spending countless hours reinventing how we are going to serve our students and communities moving forward and for that I’m grateful. The staff has embraced the changes and demands put upon them and they are forging ahead trying to create an environment for our students that will inspire and push them to expand their social and emotional well being as well as their academic abilities. I have full confidence in our staff and look forward to observing them as they continue to be creative in the way they serve our students and families moving forward.
As I spoke to the faculty this week I explained to them how grateful I am to be able to serve such great teachers, students and communities. Many people have approached me with comments related to how tough this year must have been as a first year Superintendent. I have reflected on that a great deal and this is my response. Yes, there have been moments that have been challenging, however I’m grateful for the opportunities I have been provided. Due to the various circumstances we have dealt with during this pandemic I have been able to witness our communities coming together to serve the greater good. When we asked our staff and community members to come together to serve our students and families there was no hesitation which demonstrates the commitment we have in our district. It truly does take a village and I’m thankful for ours.
I will leave with these final thoughts. We will continue to be faced with challenges and obstacles each and every day but we will do our best to work together to overcome them. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to partner with you in this journey and thanks again for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.
Mr. Cheek
Superintendent
