It's time for the Illinois 5-Essentials Parent Survey! I have shared the link on Facebook as well as through an email. Please take time to fill out the parent survey. This is an opportunity for you to tell us about your experiences with us. We use these results to guide planning and instruction and to generate ways that we may better serve you and your student. Click on the link below to start the survey. When it asks for the county please type in Douglas County.

Attention 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents: In order for students to purchase extra food at lunch it is required that they have money in their account. We cannot sell extra food to them if they do not have money in the account to use. They will never be denied a lunch tray, this only applies if they are buying an extra milk, a milk if they brought their lunchbox, or any of the extra food that is available for purchase. Attention to Kindergarten parents: All students are charged for milk for their snack. Milk is .40. Students in K-5 are also charged .40 if they purchase extra milk or juice at lunch.

Veteran’s Day
Our Veteran’s Day program was held last Monday, November 11. A big thank you to all of the students and the people that worked on putting the program together. The students never cease to amaze me! I am so proud of what we do at Atwood-Hammond Grade School.

Drop-Off in the morning/Pick up in the Afternoon
Please remember when you are dropping students off in the morning that it is a "drive-through" system. Please do not park in the middle of the drive so people cannot get through. If you are needing to park to get out of the car or watch students go into the building you will need to park in a parking spot and let them walk in from there.
A reminder that we do not want any cars entering or leaving the East parking lot until after 3:35. If you are picking up your child after school we ask that you park on the road and either wait in your car or walk up to meet your child. This is for the safety of our students. Please follow these rules so we can ensure the safety of our kids at dismissal.

K-5-Keep our building clean. We have seen a lot of students picking up trash around the school. We encourage you to keep doing this so we can reduce the amount of trash around the building.
If we can work together and keep our building clean then we will get to have a Winter Party in January when we come back from break.
6-8- Be aware of your hallway behaviors. Elementary students are watching you. Thank you to the students that are walking on the right side of the hallway. It is very helpful when you are using 0 voices while traveling throughout the building. By doing this you are setting a great example for our younger students.
Please continue to choose these behaviors outside of the Junior High Hallway then you will earn a game day in January when we come back from break.

Our Cool Tool for November is going to be to focus on Gratitude. Gratitude helps us to see what is there instead of what isn’t.

The Penny Wars are Back!!
November 18th- November 22nd, Atwood Hammond Grade School will host Penny Wars between grade levels! Each grade level will have a red piggy bank located in the foyer by the office. Students may put PENNIES or DOLLARS in THEIR grade levels’ red piggy bank. The grade level with the largest sum of money at the end of the Penny Wars will win a PIZZA PARTY  from Atwood Hammond Student Council. Here's the catch…. Students may bring in silver coins to put into OTHER grade levels’ red piggy banks.  Any silver coins in a container will subtract from the total amount in that container, therefore making it a competition between grade levels.  This is a fun way for the students to raise money for our local Eastern Illinois Food Bank.

Food Drive
November 18th-November 22nd, Atwood Hammond Grade School will also be hosting a food drive for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.  Any food donated during the drive will go to the local food bank in the area! Students will be encouraged to bring in an item from the list below. The grade level that has has donated the most items by the end of our food drive will receive a DONUT PARTY from Atwood Hammond Student Council!
Suggested Food Drive Items: Cereal,Boxed Meals, Peanut Butter, Canned Fruit, Canned Vegetables, Canned Beans, Canned Meats ,Canned Meals-ravioli, SpagettiOs etc
